What is Ta Van village?

Ta Van is a village of Giay, Black Hmong and Red Dao hamlets on the floor of the Muong Hoa valley, about 11 km below Sa Pa town. A half day covers the Giay lanes and a craft workshop; a full day climbs on to the bamboo forest. With a local guide you get more than the photo: who lives where, and how indigo cloth is waxed and dyed.

Every gate fee, the workshop and every other cost are already included — you never open your wallet.

The Giay lanes

Most walkers cross Ta Van on the main path to lunch. The Giay hamlets sit off it: wooden houses, kitchen gardens and terraces running down to the Muong Hoa stream.

Indigo and beeswax

Cloth dyed in indigo vats, patterns drawn first in hot beeswax with a small metal pen, then boiled out. You sit down at the workshop and make a piece yourself.

Across the stream and uphill: a Red Dao village, then a cool bamboo forest with a waterfall. This is the walk that turns the half day into a full one.

Shared group tour vs. private tour

Shared group tours suit travellers who are happy to follow a big group on a fixed plan. Here is what actually changes when the day is yours.

Shared group tour

  • One guide shared by a coach of 10–30 guests
  • Fixed route and timetable — no changes on the day
  • Lunch at a homestay on the main trail, shared with the other groups
  • Gate fees and workshop fees often paid on the spot
  • The walk ends at the Ta Van bridge, waiting for the group van

Fixed plan · extras paid on the day

Your private day with us

  • Just your group of 1–4, with a licensed local guide fluent in English
  • Your route and pace — any itinerary can be changed on request
  • Tea in a Giay home, or lunch cooked with a Giay family on the full day
  • Every gate fee and every workshop fee pre-paid
  • Picked up and returned to your hotel — no shop stops, in writing

Made for your group · everything included

Our promises — in writing

No hidden costs

The group price is final. Gate fees, the workshop, tea or lunch, and the hotel nights on the 3-day tour are all pre-paid.

No shop stops

We earn from the tour price alone. Your time goes to the families and the lanes you came to see, not a souvenir showroom.

Door to door

Pickup and drop-off at your hotel in Sa Pa or Ta Van, or in Hanoi for the 3-day tour — never “the walk ends at the bridge”.

Licensed local guides

Locals fluent in English who know Ta Van inside out. They explain the customs of each hamlet and each step of the indigo cloth, as you go.

Three sample itineraries. Each one can be tailored to you.

Book one as it is, or use it as a starting point — tell us what to add, skip or linger over and we will adjust the day. Car, guide, every gate fee and the workshop are always included.

Questions people ask before booking

Is Ta Van village worth visiting?

Yes, if you want the Giay side of the valley and a craft you can try, not just a photo stop. The main path through the village is busy from late morning with trekking groups, homestays and cafés; the quieter hamlets and the workshops are what a private guide adds.

How far is Ta Van from Sapa?

About 11 km down provincial road 152, 35 to 40 minutes by car on a narrow, winding road. Sapa itself is about five and a half hours from Hanoi by expressway, which is why the 3-day tour starts in Hanoi.

What exactly is included in the price?

Private car with driver, a licensed local guide who speaks fluent English, hotel pickup and drop-off in Sa Pa or Ta Van (in Hanoi for the 3-day tour), every gate fee and the workshop, meals and drinks as listed on each tour, and two hotel nights on the 3-day tour. The only things not included are personal shopping and optional tips.

Can I cancel or reschedule?

Yes — for the half day and the full day, free cancellation up to 3 days before departure for a full refund, and free rescheduling subject to availability. Within 3 days of departure, 30% of the tour price (the deposit) is charged because the car and guide are already committed. The 3-day tour includes hotel nights: it is free to cancel up to 21 days before, 50% of the hotel cost is charged from 21 to 14 days, and within 14 days 30% of the tour price is charged.

Can the tour be tailored for children, older parents or our own interests?

Yes — every itinerary can be adjusted. Tell us who is travelling and what you enjoy, and we will change the stops and the pace to suit. The village lanes are gentle; the only real climb is the path up to Giang Ta Chai on the full day, and the car can stay close to the group instead.

How do I pay, and when?

Two ways: pay the full price online by card, or pay a 30% deposit online and the rest in cash on the day of the tour, in US dollars or Vietnamese dong. We can also send a secure payment link on WhatsApp. The booking is confirmed once the online payment goes through, and your pickup time and guide’s name arrive in writing.

How far ahead should I book?

A few days is comfortable in the busy months from September to November and March to May; at quieter times next-day requests often work. The 3-day tour needs a week or more so the hotel can be held. Message us and we will tell you honestly what is still open.
